Mobility Scooter Battery Charging Tips
Expect to charge your scooter nightly.
Making sure that the batteries are charged and functioning properly is one of the most important features of your scooter
Your scooter can do a lot for you! Making sure that the batteries are charged and functioning properly is one of the most important features of your scooter. As a general rule, expect to charge your scooter nightly so that it's ready for a full day of use tomorrow!
Batteries
You'll be glad to know that your scooter's batteries are for the most part, maintenance-free! They'll never leak because the electrolyte is immobilized. Even if the battery is overturned, it still won't leak. This is also a bonus if you're flying with your scooter. Because the batteries are sealed, most airlines allow Canada Scooters. Always contact your airline prior to departure. Please note, each airliner is entitled to make their own decision on this matter.
Battery Charger
When you purchase your new mobility scooter, you will also receive a battery charger specifically designed for your scooter. Do not attempt to use a charger not intended for your scooter as this can cause permanent damage, and void the warranty!
Charging the Batteries
When the battery state indicator on the tiller console is in the far left position your scooter needs to be recharged. Please note, that if you don't use up your scooter's entire battery the batteries will last longer! To extend the life of your battery, start re-charging when the battery gauge is in the yellow section. It will take about 12 cycles of full discharge and full recharge the get the batteries functioning at their best.
Turn OFF your scooter, and remove the key. Plug the Off Board Charger that came with your scooter, into a standard 110 V wall socket. Place the round tip into the charging receptacle which is located on the battery pack under the seat. Flip the safety cap up, and plug in the charger making sure to line up the pins. The minimum time to recharge your batteries is approximately eight hours, or overnight. How appropriate! As your battery ages it may take more time. Should you place your scooter in storage for any length of time, recharging the batteries monthly will extend the life of the batteries.
